The making of Traffix


Traffix was sitting in my latop's HDD since 2018 waiting to be fixed. Made it back in college as part of a BTEC Level 3 module about games development, where we speedran through Game Maker 8.0 Lite's functionality. It was part of the design brief to use Game Maker 8's built-in Lives and Score, which have since been officially deemed obsolete in newer versions of GameMaker as it's now called.

Originally, the game had a bug in the collision detection where you'd get stuck in the walls, especially after picking up the speed-boost wellies. When I fixed that bug by replacing all the movement code, I accidentally gave the player the ability to push cars from the side. I kept this in as a necessary mechanic for the start of the last level.
